Another great Rainforest themed week! The children's knowledge and understanding of why the Rainforest is such a popular habitat for so much life is really developing!
We are so proud of the children's artwork which is on display in the Key Stage 1 corridor! After studying the Artist Henri Rousseau, we created our own tiger artwork based on his techniques and style. Over several weeks we carefully added different layers to our art and we hope you agree the final pieces are just fantastic!
We have started our Gymnastics module with our specialist PE Teacher Mr Letts. We have really enjoyed exploring different ways of travelling, and ensuring that we are moving our bodies safely. This will continue for the rest of the term and is certainly a favourite with the children!
In Literacy we have been learning about the different Rainforest layers and considering which animals we would find in each area. The children were introduced to a variety of different animals and plants, learning about the interesting ways they have adapted over time to suit life in the Rainforest. Camouflage was a very popular theme with the children! We then produced some super facts about our favourite animals and shared them with our friends. Next week we will return to our story 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' and learn the structure and layout of letter writing. We might even receive a letter from the bear!
In Numeracy we have continued to get to grips with the number system, this time practising finding two more and two less than a given number. Next week we will be expanding our knowledge and understanding of numbers 0-100 through a variety of hands on activities!
All the children became Scientists this week! They were challenged to remove a metal paperclip from a cup of water using a magnet, however the magnet wasn't allowed to touch the water! We saw lots of team work and logical thinking to try and solve this problem. The children then found different items in the classroom which were attracted to the magnets, and those that were not!
We have been lucky enough to be chosen for some professional cricket coaching this Term. This takes place on a Wednesday afternoon outside in the playground. Therefore, please ensure that the children are bringing a complete, warm PE kit into school each week so that they can fully enjoy the session!
Have a lovely weekend,
The Year One Team
