Medical and Special Needs
Medication
Some children may require medication from time to time but the only medication that we are allowed to administer is that which has been prescribed by a doctor.
Under no circumstances should children bring any other form of medication to school eg cough sweets etc. Medicines such as Calpol, ibuprofen, cough mixture etc are not allowed to be given to children by school staff, unless prescribed.
If your child needs to have prescribed medication administered at school, please come to the Office where you will need to complete the required permission form.
If your child needs medication three times a day the LA recommends this doesn't come to school but is taken before school, on return home from school and before bed (unless it is essential to be taken before food at lunchtime).
Some children will have specific medical needs and will have an individual medical plan drawn up for them in liaison with the School Nurse.
Combe Down Primary has several members of staff who are trained First Aiders.
Asthma Inhalers
We have been advised that all children with an inhaler should have two in school; the one they may need to use and a spare one that is to be kept in the office in case the other one runs out or fails to work.
