Routines and Rules
The School Day
School begins at 8.45am for Key Stage 2 pupils and 8.50am for Foundation and Key Stage 1. There is a lunch break from 12 noon to 1.00pm, and the school day ends for all pupils at 3.15pm. All children have a morning break from 10.30 to 10.45am, and Key Stage 1 children have a ten minute break in the afternoon.
Children are not expected to be on school premises until 8.35am unless they are attending a club (eg judo) before school. Reception, and Years, 1, 2 & 3 line up in the Lower Playground, Years 4, 5 & 6 in the Top Playground.
Children are NOT allowed on the Play Equipment in the Top Playground before or after school and NO BALL GAMES are to be played before school; there are too many people around including many very young children.
If children ride bikes or scooters to school they must push them, not ride them, once they are on the school premises. We are currently investigating storage for bikes and scooters during the school day.
Dogs are not allowed onto the school site.
Absence from School
If your child is away from school, parents must inform the office on the first day of absence. In line with the Health Protection Agency guidelines, please remember that children should not return to school until 48 hours from the last episode of D & V. We'd all be grateful if you could follow these guidelines to help prevent anyone else contracting the bug/illness.
Food at School
Break time snacks should be healthy and consist of fruit, dried fruit, vegetables; NOT nuts, crisps or biscuits. All children in the FS and KS1 receive fruit and vegetables daily as part of the Government scheme.
As there are no facilities for hot meals all children have packed lunches. We positively encourage healthy eating and hope that you will support us in this in what you provide for your children. We are keen to be green and promote recycling so whilst we recycle as much waste as we can it would be even better to usepots, containers or foil that could be used again.
Packed lunches can be ordered from Ralph Allen School; please contact the Office if you are interested in using that option.
Contacting You
It is the responsibility of parents to ensure that the school has up to date contact details for them should they need to be contacted at any time.
Parking
Having 400 children on a fairly small site means that car parking is a perennial problem. If you use a car to get to school could you please park considerately, observe the road markings and keep the driveways of the homes of local residents clear.
