Trips and Visits
School Trips
Each year-group will have opportunities to develop their learning on various topics outside of the classroom. It is often these out-of-class learning opportunities that children remember for many years after they have moved on from Combe Down.
Teachers aim to use the local community to provide learning opportunities for the children in their class and also plan a few trips or visits possibly slightly further-a-field to give that extra experience. Visits that have taken place in the past year have included a Reception trip to Bowood, Year 2 visit to Horse World and Year 3 dressing as evacuees and travel to Nothe Fort (Weymouth) to experience a day in the life of a child during World War II.
For many of the visits and trips (as with all learning experiences in School) there are opportunities for parents to get involved and assist in the activities.
Residential Visits
Isle of Wight
Every year in May the Year 4 children have the opportunity to make a two night visit to the Isle of Wight. Whilst there they make many visits to places of interest such as Osborne House, Brading Roman Villa and Appledurcombe Heritage Centre. The visit is an opportunity for the children to gain a taste of independence within a safe and secure environment. It is always a real success and the children gain much from the experience.
PGL Activity Centre
In Year 6 the children are able to take part in a 4 night visit to an activity centre. This experience provides opportunities for the children to work together in teams, supporting each other as well as setting themselves personal challenges. Again it is a very rewarding experience which the children thoroughly enjoy.
Finance for Visits
All educational visits and residential trips carry an additional charge. We are aware that on occasions it may not be possible for families to meet this payment. If you feel that your child may not be able to take part in and activity for financial reasons then please make an appointment to see the Headteacher. We may be able to make applications on your behalf for additional funding.
