Continuing Learning at Home
At the start of Foundation Stage, children are asked to practise the sounds that we have been doing in school during the daytime from their 'Sounds Books'. Reading books that are brought home initially are for children and parents/carers to share together and we do not expect children to read these to their parents, they are selected by children from a wide variety of books at different levels.

As the year progresses, children begin to select books from a banded reading scheme and we like parents to read with their children as regularly as possible, trying to remember to keep the reading sessions short and fun.
We also send home keywords - these are the 'tricky words' which appear regularly but which can't all be sounded out phonetically.
Planning books come home at least once per term, these give parents and children the opportunity to discuss and choose an activity (from a selected list)that the child would like to do in the classroom, often 1:1 with a member of staff.
WOW! stickers: blank stickers are sent home for parents to fill in to mark and celebrate those moments when their child does something of note for the first time, e.g. reading a book with no help or support, or tidying their bedroom without being asked.
