Learning at Home - Y1
Out-of-school learning plays an important role in enabling children to make key connections between what they learn in school, and the 'wider world'.
Reading at home is strongly recommended, whether it be a 'schemed' book from school, or an alternative text, e.g. newspapers, magazines, library books. A range of fiction and non-fiction texts is very beneficial.
Exposing children to a range of 'real-life' scenarios, such as using money, cooking, shopping, using public transport, recycling and using maps will help them to make this important link.
Visits to places of general interest such as museums and local landmarks will reinforce the children's concept of their 'place' in the wider world.
