Year 1 go to Westonbirt Arboretum

On Monday 10th May 2010 Year 1 went on a trip to Westonbirt Arboretum with our teddies.

When we arrived we had to ask our teddies to look after our lunches whilst we went to do some activities. First we were told a story all about how the teddies that used to live in the woods before we came along and what they needed to survive. Then we made a new tea by picking up and smelling objects around the arboretum such as leaves, flowers and acorns. We loved making up names for our new teas! Next we went and touched all of the different kinds of bark in the Arboretum, some were smooth and some were rough. After that we played some games called Musical bears and Bear’s den.

Finally it was time for our lunch so we went back to find our teddies BUT they were no-where to be seen. They had got bored of waiting for us so they had gone ahead to eat their lunch. Luckily they had left us some clues so we went on a hunt to find our teddy bears. Needless to say some of uswere not impressed, as we were very hungry. When we eventually got to the end of our trail our teddies had laid out a wonderful picnic for us.

During the afternoon we made an island for our teddies. The island had to include a shelter, water, air and food. We all had a great day out even our teddies enjoyed it!!!

Year 1 explore the polar regions!

Last Tuesday Year 1 went to Bristol Zoo to explore the Polar regions as part of their topic this term. The children went in an igloo, a white and icy igloo and met a new friend, a soft and furry Chinchilla! They learnt many facts and were able to explore artefacts from the region such as a stuffed polar bear, some wolf's fur and a Narwhal whale's tooth. The children really enjoyed the trip and were a credit to the school - well done Year 1!
