Week ending 6.1.12

Year 1

This week, in numeracy, we have been estimating, measuring and comparing objects using non-standard units of length. The children worked on a carousel of various activities and have been introduced to words such as 'longer', 'shorter' and 'equal'. Next week the children will be using standards units of measure and instruments for mass, capacity and length.

We have begun our Explorers Topic, finding out about famous explorers and imagining what they would need to take on their journeys. We have asked lots of questions and next week we will be spending a day in the rainforest so that we can record our experiences in our own diaries.

At home try finding objects shorter or longer than the indicated body part on your sheet provided. Have fun!

Miss Coles and Mrs Povoas would also like to thank you all for your lovely cards and gifts this Christmas. Have a good weekend.
