Learning at Home

Year 5 Learning at Home/Homework

Formal/Compulsory homework is set weekly, usually on a Friday and children are expected to spend about 45mins-1 hour attempting to complete the homework. The children are expected to spend their time working on the homework as best they can and it is not a requirement that they work until the task is finished but that they spend the allotted time on the set homework. The homework will need to attempted and handed in by the Wednesday of the following week. Most of this formal homework is to be completed in homework books and recorded in the homework planners.

Optional homework is recommended to take place as often as possible. This optional homework includes reading (preferably a novel but reading of any source is great), practice recalling the multiplication tables and practice spelling high-frequency words. Included in this is Read Around Europe.

Children will need access to the following resources for certain pieces of homework:

  • Pencil
  • Rubber
  • Sharpener
  • Colouring pencils
  • Handwriting pen
  • Ruler
  • Protractor
