News from Key Stage 2 Upper
Year 5 Update 3rd February 2012
This week...
We have been learning about an Indian legend explaining how Ganesh got his elephant head.
In Maths, we read 12 hour and 24 hour clocks and solved problems involving time.
In Science, we continue to wait for suitable weather to investigate shadows as the sun appears to move across the sky. Meanwhile, we have been working on our posters explaining day and night.
Homework
You have either one or two pieces of MyMaths homework this week. Please log in to MyMaths for your task.

Remember, if you do not have access to the internet at home, you can come to the homework club in 5IR on Thursday lunchtimes to complete your MyMaths task.
Next Week....
The children will be retelling their version of Ganesh using story telling actions to consolidate key phrases that will then impact on our wriiting.
In Maths, we will be interpreting a range of charts and graphs.
In Science, we will continue our investigations into the movement of the sun across the sky and whether the seasons make a difference.

Year 6 Update
This week
In Numeracy we have been looking at properties numbers, square numbers, triangular numbers and sequences within the mighty Pascal's triangle. We are also consolidating some of our work on ratio and proportion and reviewing some of our work from the last few weeks.
In Literacy we are finishing our work on "Kensuke's Kingdom" (Chapters 8,9 and 10) and looking at how the author portrays a range of emotions in the text. We have created a Kensuke timeline and will be comparing the texts of Morpurgo as we go along.
We also have a visit from the RNLI this week as we look at safety at sea.
Next Week
Homework - Homework Challenge Project to be completed please, along with some materials needed for our Design and Technology project of Lighthouses. Please bring in a kitchen roll tube and a newspaper to help you complete your sea safety design next week.
Mixed times tables test on Wednesday, differentiated spelling rules test Thursday.
