Combe Down School Choir

When: Monday 3.15pm - 4.15pm
Run by: Ms Paterson and Mr Speck
Who for: Years 1 to 6

The School Choir meets once a week in the school hall. We always start off with some warm-ups to loosen up our voices and bodies - ask the children about doing gorilla-in-love, grumpy gorilla, bungee jumping and drinking a pint of air!

We then move on to our current repertoire and practise learning new parts. The children often sing in two-part harmony and we are always amazed at how quickly they learn and remember quite difficult melodies and rhythms.

We perform regularly for school events such as the Christmas Concert, church services and the school fayre. Last year we also enjoyed carol-singing both at the Peggy Dodd Centre for the elderly and in the town centre where we raised money for the school. The children also performed beautifully at the Mid-Somerset Festival this year where their singing of Rutter’s ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ was praised by the adjudicator for ‘capturing the mood brilliantly’.

We don’t audition children as we want anyone who is keen and committed to join us and let their voices sing out!

Choir sing at Southgate with the Mayor of Bath!

The Choir were invited to sing the Jubilee Song outside the Apple Store in Bath, the Mayor of Bath was there and was very impressed with their lovely singing!
