Hockey Club with Mr Bullard is on Mondays at 3:15 on the top playground, or 4:30pm on Monkton Combe's all weather Hockey Pitch.

We start off by doing basic ball control, then passing and then controlling the ball while turning round cones. After that we start to play a match!

Hockey team in action

The hockey team played in the Savill’s Plate competition last Sunday at Bath University for the first time in a couple of years and did very well indeed!

It was the first hockey match ever for all of the team and they were in a tough pool against Bath Buccs HC Cadets, West Wilts HC and St. Stephen’s Primary. In a tense and nervous first game Combe Down repelled all Buccs’ attacks before we broke for our only shot of the match which was put away by Fin Coyle. West Wilts were up next and it was an end to end match which saw us pipped 2-1, despite a goal of great quality from Josh Tollitt.

Into the last match; Fin and Josh put us 2-0 up but it needed some first class goalkeeping from Dylan Farrar and excellent defending from Georgia Langley to keep a clean sheet. That win was enough to see us finish top of the group on goal difference and qualify for the finals.

In a three team pool we played Yate HC first and again Josh scored a neat first goal followed up by a fearsome shot from Fin. Yate pulled one back with the last shot of the match to leave us 2-1 winners. One game to play against previously unbeatenAbergavenny HC, who we found out had become Welsh champions last week! We fought very bravely but couldn’t stop a very good team from eventually pulling away and winning 5-0; no disgrace losing to such a good side and to finish runners-up is a fantastic achievement.

Charlie Shearn and Karl Jefferies worked really hard winning tackles and holding the ball up well as did Dylan Wainwright and Daniel Perry in midfield. Charlotte Smith was very solid in defence with Georgia. All the team played for each other and got better as the competition went on. I am very proud of all of them - very well done!
