Book Week - You are a Reader!

10 March 2023

We had a wonderful book week last week with plenty of memorable moments to celebrate and an eye-catching new display in the library (if you haven’t seen it yet, it is definitely worth a visit!).

Kicking off the week on Monday, buddy reading took place across the school, with the children enthusiastically sharing their favourite books with their buddy from another year group.  Years 1 and 3 took part in the Dave Pigeon draw-along and meet the author, and even got tweeted by author Swapna Haddow for our excellent drawings!

Tuesday was another action-packed day with many of the children continuing with book-related activities, including 10 minute online story shares from famous authors as well as creating our own books and designing covers.

Book at bedtime (well, 4:45pm) saw plenty of children return to school in pyjamas, onesies, dressing gowns and slippers, clutching much-loved teddies and, most importantly, A MUG!  Thank you to all the members of our PTA who supported by serving delicious chocolate milk and biscuits to all who attended.

Wednesday brought another day of sharing books, book-related quizzes, making mini-books, redesigning book covers in Year 4 and entries were written in Year 5’s ‘book of niceness’.

To round off the week, not only did pupils and staff arrive dressed up as an array of book characters, our very own Mrs Perry led assemblies on Friday, sharing her work as an author and her fabulous book, “I Don’t Like Books. Never. Ever. The End.”  The children loved getting to know the main character Mabel, a little bit of acting, and thinking about further adventures she could take through new and exciting stories.  Thank you, Emma, for sharing your expertise with us all – it’s so inspiring to have a real-life author as part of our Combe Down team.

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who took part in our book week, and we are looking forward to next year’s already!
